Miscellaneous Reviews

The overall format and structure of the miscellaneous rubrics was adapted from the Health Rubric and materials from K-12 Alliance/WestEd/BSCS. The rubrics consist of two parts. The first part is a review of the standards that are being met by the textbook and was scored as Yes or No. The second part reviews the Work Students Do, Assessments and the Work Teachers Do within a textbook and was scored out of a total of 54 points. Reviewers were selected by way of an application process, which required that they be licensed in the content area being reviewed. All reviewers were trained in the use of the rubrics.

Reviewer Recommendations

In July 2011, the appointed reviewers met to discuss their individual reviews and reach consensus on a total score for each textbook or set of instructional materials. As part of the effort to better inform and assist school corporations in making purchasing decisions that best fit local needs and student success, the total score sheets for all materials reviewed are made publicly available.
